Friday morning marked the start of the Homewood Suites Sunshine State Classic, where UCF Volleyball (2-2) matched up against FAU (3-1). The Owls came into the game undefeated, having beaten Central Connecticut, Stetson and Stephan F. Austin at the Stetson Invitational last week. But UCF managed to bring that winning streak to an end, defeating FAU 3-1.

The first two sets were a back and forth matchup. UCF won the first set 25-21. In the second set with the score tied at 24-24, two attack errors by UCF’s Anne Marie Watson and Kia Bright gave FAU the win.

The Knights used the third set of the matchup to make a statement, winning the set 25-11. UCF totaled 14 kills in that set alone.

In the fourth set, the Knights won 25-20 with only two errors, handing the Owls their first loss of the 2017 season.

Redshirt senior outside hitter Kia Bright was a key offensive player with 18 total kills and junior libero Jordan Pingel led the defense with 18 digs.

UCF will take on FGCU tonight at 7:00 pm.
