UCF’s seven-game winning streak was broken Sunday afternoon as it fell to top-seeded SMU in the American Conference Tournament Championship 2-1 in overtime.

The game was scoreless until the 77th minute, when SMU’s Jordan Cano tapped a ball in from inside the six-yard box.

Things only got worse for the Knights when sophomore forward Cal Jennings received a red card in the 85th minute. The undermanned Knights got new life two minutes later however, as an own goal off the foot of Cano tied the game up at 1-1.

The Knights had a chance to win it in overtime, when in the 94th minute a corner kick found the head of junior midfielder Ricardo Oliveros, but it fell harmlessly to the SMU keeper.

The game would come to an end in the 100th minute when SMU midfielder Emil Cuello found the back of the net on an impressive 30-yard strike.

New coach Scott Calabrese finished his first season with an 8-6-2 record, which was good enough for second in the AAC.
