An American Athletic Conference matchup against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane resulted in 6-1 victory for the UCF Women’s Soccer. This is the sixth win for the team this season and the most goals scored in a game by the Knights since 2012.

UCF started out the game with possession of the ball and kept the ball in favor over the course of the game. In the first half alone, the Knights attempted 18 shots, nine of them on goal, dominating the first half.

Two-time rookie of the week Dina Orschmann was the first to score for the Knights.

“I really appreciate these statements, to be rookie of the week but I think it’s a team game,” Orschmann said.

Orschmann, from Berlin, Germany, is the leading scorer for the Knights and is ranked among the top 10 freshmen in the nation.

“I think it’s a lot of key players who make the game,” Orschmann commented in regards to not only her success but the team’s.

Orschmann was a key offensive player throughout the game, with as many as 4 shots on goal.

Captain and recently-named Offensive Player of the Week Kayla Adamek had a strong offensive performance and was an active player for the Knights as well. Adamek attempted four shots with two on goal in the first half of the game before substitution.

The Knights held a 1-0 lead by the end of the first half.

At the start the second half, forward Morgan Ferrara brought the team to a 2-0 lead with 42 minutes left in the second half.

Ferrara commented that Tulsa was a tough team to configure.

“The game started out pretty slow but I think at half time we came together and were like, ‘alright we gotta step it up.’ They played a little differently than we’re used to, so, once we figured out what they were doing, we stepped it up and scored some goals.”

Ferrara also scored the third goal for the Knights, her fourth goal this season.

“It was a great set-up, honestly… I just remember the ball popped out and I’m like ‘just keep it down, don’t put it over’ and just placed it,” Ferrara said. “It was a team goal, I think every goal tonight, even the PK was just a team effort. I love this team.”

Following Ferrara’s third goal, two more were scored by Stefanie Sanders and Julia Moore.

After UCF scored its fifth goal of the night, Tulsa reacted by scoring their first goal of the game, a slip through Varis’ hands. That was one of two shots by Tulsa the entire game.

After Tulsa scored, UCF retaliated with a two-hammered shot by Christine Creighton, scoring her second goal of the season and the sixth goal for the Knights.

Coach Tiffany Roberts-Sahaydak is proud of the team’s victory but plans on taking each game step by step.

“We are a mentally tough team right now, there’s a lot of trust right now,” she said. “We just need to continue to bring that to Memphis…. We just keep telling the team, ‘let’s just keep it rolling,’”

The Knights will face Memphis at the UCF Soccer Complex this Sunday, September 30th at 1 p.m.
