Every Thursday throughout the summer, Knight Sports Now has been taking a look at UCF Football’s best game in each of their years competing at the FBS level as part of a Throwback Thursday series. As we hit the final stretch, we’ll be turning back the clock every day leading up to the 2018 season. Today, we continue with 2011.

UCF Football’s Best Game of 2011: 30-3 win vs. Boston College

Despite failing to follow up its big 2010 season in 2011, UCF still had itself a nice start to the year. The Knights blew out Charleston Southern, 62-0, to open the season before beating Boston College 30-3. The second victory marked the program’s first 2-0 start since 1998 and its first-ever home victory over a BCS automatic-qualifying team (fourth such win overall).

The rest of the season was nothing special, as UCF finished 5-7. But overall, the victory against the Eagles is a good choice for the Knights’ best game of the 2011 campaign.

Boston College took a 3-0 lead halfway through the first quarter, but that was all it could produce in front of an announced crowd of 45,671 at what was then Bright House Networks Stadium. UCF came back to tie it late in the first on a 36-yard field goal by Nick Cattoi. He then hit on field goals from 35 and 32 yards out to send the Knights into halftime with a 9-3 lead.

The scoring picked up for UCF in the second half, with Jeff Godfrey rushing for two touchdowns and Latavius Murray adding one. George O’Leary’s team cruised to a 30-3 victory, holding the Eagles to just 141 total yards.

Overall, Godfrey completed 20-of-25 passes for 187 yards. However, he was even more effective with his legs, rushing for 69 yards and two scores on 13 carries. Murray ran for 72 yards and a touchdown on just 10 touches. Josh Linam and A.J. Bouye both came up with interceptions in the defense’s strong effort.

The rest of UCF’s season featured losses to FIU, BYU, SMU, UAB, Tulsa, Southern Miss and East Carolina. Six of the seven losses were by one possession, which made for a frustrating year. It was a forgettable season overall, but the victory over Boston College was still significant enough to be our pick for UCF’s best game of 2011. Highlights from the contest can be seen below:
