Former UCF Football cornerback Shaquill Griffin started for the Seattle Seahawks against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
Griffin was drafted earlier this year by the Seahawks in the third round with the No. 90 pick.
Griffin, who spent four years with the Knights, played in 46 total games, scoring two touchdowns while on defense and garnering 125 total tackles.
Griffin also managed to total seven interceptions for a total of 168 yards.
With the recent injury of Jeremy Lane, room for promotion appeared for the NFL rookie. Spending a lot of time learning from teammate and fellow cornerback Richard Sherman, Griffin will be given a chance not many can hope for.
“Shaq’s going to start in the game because of Jeremy being down. It’s a good opportunity for him,” Carroll said Friday during his discussion with 710 ESPN.
Griffin made four interceptions in his senior year, earning All-American Athletic Conference Second Team honors. His pass break-ups totaled 15, which combined with his four interceptions, placed him at No. 5 in the nation and No.1 in the AAC.
Griffin’s brother, Shaquem, currently plays for UCF and will be a redshirt senior in the 2017 season.
