UCF running back and former four-star recruit Cordarrian Richardson is transferring, according to Juan Toribio of 247Sports.
The running back out of Trezevant High School in Memphis is reportedly looking for a new home in the SEC. Before signing with the Knights in 2017, he had offers from Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee and 14 others. He was committed to Maryland on National Signing Day before a late flip to UCF.
In one year at UCF, Richardson ran for 161 yards and two touchdowns on 45 carries. He struggled to get carries behind Adrian Killins, Otis Anderson and Taj McGowan throughout the year. With the return of regular starter Jawon Hamilton factored in for 2018, Richardson likely would have faced an uphill battle for playing time again, especially under new coach Josh Heupel. Toribio’s report also mentioned a strong relationship between Richardson and Sean Beckton, who followed Scott Frost to Nebraska after UCF’s win over No. 7 Auburn in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.
Richardson’s plans to transfer come just a week after backup quarterback Noah Vedral announced his move back to Nebraska, where he grew up.
With National Signing Day coming up in February, Heupel and his staff will be bringing in more talent to fill out the 2018 roster. As he and his staff continue to lead a transition for the program, there could potentially be more roster changes coming.
Spring football for UCF is right around the corner. No date has currently been set for the 2018 spring game.
